Life Expectancy Gap Grows between Rich and Poor
Although overall life expectancy has risen in the United States over the last 30 years, average life expectancy varies dramatically depending on where you live, according to a new study by the University of Washington. Inequalities in Life Expectancy Among US Counties, 1980 to 2014 finds that life expectancy ranges from as high as 87 in some affluent counties to as low as 66 in other, poorer counties, typically those containing Native American reservations. The authors note that the data show disparities by race, income, and geography in average life expectancy.
