Seth Moulton

Seth Moulton has served as a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District since 2005. He served in the Marines after graduating from Harvard and went on to earn master’s degrees in business and public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Previous Work Around Poverty and Opportunity

  • As a congressmember, he garnered support from more than a hundred other representatives to request more funds for the HOME Investment Partnership program, a federal block grant that aims to increase the supply of affordable housing.

On the Issues

Jobs: Is a co-sponsor of the “Green New Deal.” Co-sponsored the Microloan Modernization Act, which would increase the ceiling of loans available for startups and small businesses.

Affordable Housing: Supports increased federal funding to reduce housing costs for lower-income families; is working to increase access to mortgage credit.

Health Care/Insurance: Wants to build on the Affordable Care Act but says his experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs has made him skeptical of single-payer health care.

Education: Co-authored the America’s College Promise Act, which provides two free years at community college for roughly 9 million Americans. Wants to do more to address the costs of higher education.

Criminal Justice: Strives to lift “federal restrictions on the study of the causes of gun violence” in an effort to better address the gun violence epidemic. Supports banning civilian use of “military-style assault weapon[s].” Favors the legalization of marijuana.

Minimum Wage: Co-authored the Raise the Wage Act (H.R. 2150), which was meant to increase the federal minimum wage to $12 per hour by 2020.

Safety Net: Wants to strengthen Social Security and “make it sustainable in the long term.”

Children/Families: Has not voiced specific beliefs but said that “family values – human values – dictate we must do more.”

Taxes/Tax Credits: He supports a tax reform system that prioritizes small business owners, students and families as opposed to larger corporations.
