Work Requirements Raise Medicaid Administration Costs

A new report from Fitch Ratings finds that work requirements can lead to higher Medicaid administration costs. Kentucky’s Medicaid administration costs jumped 40% in the state’s most recent budget, a rise Fitch attributes partially to the state’s Medicaid work requirements (which were later struck down in court). The report concludes that the costs of administering work requirements could limit any money saved by declines in enrollment.
