Low-Income People Forgo Medical Care in States Without Medicaid Expansion

In the 17 states that have not expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, low-income people are much more likely to forgo necessary medical care, according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office. The report also finds that low-income adults in expansion states were less likely to have unmet medical needs – such as not being able to afford prescriptions or routine dental check-ups – regardless of whether they were insured.
