“Harvard’s Vice President for Finance Thomas Hollister and Treasurer Paul Finnegan wrote in the school’s fiscal 2016 annual report that small gifts still ‘make a meaningful difference for individual students and faculty,’ citing $1,000 donations that cover half a start-up grant for freshmen from low-income families or cover costs for an academic journal subscription.”
