Some of the most prominent voices on poverty and politics will come together on December 16 for a bipartisan audio conference on poverty, opportunity, and the 2016 election hosted by Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity. Speakers include Jimmy Kemp, president of the Jack Kemp Foundation; Neera Tanden, executive director of the Center for American Progress; and E.J. Dionne and Michael Gerson, columnists for the Washington Post.

The 2016 presidential campaign has already seen significant focus on issues related to poverty and opportunity. Candidates have outlined their plans to tackle poverty in videos submitted to a national coalition of Christian leaders. And this month, a Brookings Institution panel named “poverty and economic mobility” one of eight issues they expect to be most prominent during the election.

With such events as a backdrop, the audio call will explore a range of critical questions: Could areas of consensus emerge across parties on issues related to poverty and opportunity? Where will differences be greatest? How might candidates deliver on promises they’ve made to low-income voters? The audio conference will be held from 4-5 p.m. EST.
