School Vouchers Not Viable for Most Communities

President Donald Trump and Secretary of Education Betsy Devos have both indicated that providing vouchers for private school choice will be a major education policy priority, but vouchers will not effectively help most low-income Americans, according to a new report from the Center for American Progress. Vouchers Are Not a Viable Solution for Vast Swaths of America finds that most school districts contain so few schools that vouchers are unlikely to be useful for most families, especially those who can’t afford to move. Voucher proposals would make students living in poverty in urban areas more vulnerable to being forced into failing or underfunded schools, according to the report.
