Renters want City Council to prevent evictions, even for those in poor living conditions

Demonstrators want city lawmakers to pass eviction legislation to prevent landlords with so many code violations that they cannot get a certificate of occupancy from then being able to evict the tenants who exposed the problems.

Yet Rich Tyson says lawmakers also have to address the absentee landlord situation, and he says the best way to do that is to provide real COVID relief to landlords who live here and are willing to invest here.

‘I though maybe I could make an impact in investing in the housing (where) people are stuck in the concentration of poverty, but the state is running me out of business there,’ he said.”
