A Racial Equity Agenda for President Trump

The Trump administration should make advancing racial justice and closing disparities in health, housing, and other areas a primary focus, according to a new report from the Brookings Institution. Health, Housing, and Racial Justice: An Agenda for the Trump Administration argues that black Americans are just as far behind whites in 2017 as they were in 2000 in terms of income, wealth, health disparities, and risk of incarceration, and that the new Congress and administration should work to address those gaps. The authors recommend that the Trump administration disincentivize residential segregation by encouraging housing authorities to collaborate and zoning more affordable housing. They also suggest that the president issue a new Health Equity Executive Order directing the Department of Health and Human Services to prioritize racial health disparities.
