Why is poverty up for Iowa’s women? And what should Iowa do about it?

For all the great strides Iowa has made, and the lists of desirable places to live that it tops, a community as a whole cannot thrive when a segment of it struggles so disproportionately.  The percentage of Iowa women in poverty has grown despite a narrowing gender wage gap and an increase in the proportion of women completing a four-year college degree. The proportion of Iowa women earning bachelor’s degrees jumped from 20 percent to 30 percent.“
