Pennsylvania Students of Color Face Significant Opportunity Gaps
A Philadelphia-based nonprofit, Research for Action, released an “Educational Opportunity Dashboard” that analyzes educational factors to determine an “average opportunity score” for each of the 50 states. The researchers found that Pennsylvania had a significant gap between opportunities available to white students as opposed to those granted to students of color, ranking 48th nationally. The report also found that students of color in Pennsylvania were more likely to attend high poverty schools and were significantly less likely to be enrolled in gifted and talented courses.
