Paid Leave is Popular, But How Would it Work?

A report from the American Enterprise Institute proposes an income-tested paid parental leave program to protect the lowest earners from losing employment or income upon the birth of a new child. Affordable and Targeted: How Paid Parental Leave in the U.S. Could Work argues that this approach would also help employers who struggle to offer paid leave to all workers. The proposal comes as a new poll released by Small Business Majority and the Center for American Progress finds that about 70 percent of small business owners support a national paid leave program that would ensure all Americans partial pay for up to 12 weeks of family or medical leave.
