Most Cuts in House GOP Budget Come from Programs Targeting Low-Income People
The House Republican budget plan would draw 62 percent of its budget cuts from programs for low- and moderate-income Americans, cutting $3.7 trillion from such programs over the next decade, according to a new report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. The majority of those cuts would result from repealing the Affordable Care Act and capping federal spending on Medicaid, notes the report. The authors argue that the proposed budget would cause “tens of millions of people” to lose health coverage and access to food and housing support.
