Increasing the Minimum Wage and Earned Income Tax Credit to Prevent Suicide

A 10 percent increase in the minimum wage and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) could prevent more than 1,200 suicides per year, according to a new study from a team of University of California Berkeley researchers published by the National Bureau of Economic Research. The researchers found that the raise in income significantly impacted non-drug-related suicides for men and women without college degrees, showing the connection between income and mental health.
