Expanded EITC Pilot Shows Positive Results

A new report from MDRC finds that an expanded Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for low-income workers without children helps to increase incomes and employment and boosts child support payments for noncustodial children. A Bipartisan Way to Make Work Pay for Low-Wage Workers: Boosting the Earned Income Tax Credit for Workers Without Dependent Children details the early findings from Paychex Plus, a program to enhance the EITC for workers without children in New York City and Atlanta. The positive results indicate that expanding the EITC to childless workers could earn bipartisan support at the federal level, according to the report.
