De Blasio Acts on School Integration, but Others Lead Charge

“Mayor Bill de Blasio stepped into the school desegregation debate on Thursday, by approving a plan to diversify middle schools in one of the city’s 32 school districts and granting $2 million to help other districts come up with their own plans, but the small scale of the actions highlighted just how much he has followed on the issue rather than led. The plan was created not by City Hall or even the Department of Education, but by parents in District 15, which includes the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Park Slope, Sunset Park and Red Hook.”
