Data Shows How Neighborhoods Shape Poverty Over Lifetimes

Research published this week by the Census Bureau in collaboration with researchers from Harvard and Brown shows at a granular level how strongly a child’s neighborhood can influence their earnings and livelihood as an adult. The Opportunity Atlas estimates at the Census tract level how family income impacts children’s chances of getting ahead. The report includes an interactive map with data at the state, county, and tract levels.
