Bipartisan Rx for America’s Health Care

The Bipartisan Policy Center launched the Future of Health Care initiative to develop reforms and recommendations, designed by leaders in healthcare and members on both sides of the aisle, to improve the status of healthcare in America. To lower consumer costs, some policy recommendations include establishing a federally funded and state-administered reinsurance program and auto-enrolling subsidy-eligible individuals in Marketplace plans. To reduce stress on employers, the BPC suggests such changes as repealing the employer penalty for not providing workers with insurance. To reduce system wide healthcare costs, BCP suggests lowering hospital costs in non-competitive markets and ending surprise medical bills. To improve Medicare and Medicaid, the BCP suggests streamlining annual enrollment for Medicare and creating a state option for continuous annual eligibility for adults.
