Bass-ackward Bill: Mayor de Blasio’s school integration priorities are out of order

“It’s true that the city’s specialized high schools have a real diversity problem. But a big key to solving it intelligently is to grapple with far more pervasive and pernicious balkanization that begins in kindergarten and extends through middle school in 32 community school districts throughout the city. Two such districts — District 3 on the Upper West Side and District 15 in de Blasio’s own Brownstone Brooklyn — are in the midst of vital conversations about how to confront the separate-and-unequal educations low-income black and Latino kids get on the one hand, and better-off white kids get on the other.”
