19 percent of Michigan kids are in poverty. Advocacy groups say this tax credit could help
“Organizations advocating on behalf of children across the state are urging lawmakers to increase Michigan’s earned income tax credit as a way to combat child poverty.
The Michigan League for Public Policy, Michigan’s Children, the Council of Michigan Foundations, Think Babies Michigan and others are advocating for support on Senate Bill 417, and pushing for further expansion of the EITC.
The EITC is a way for low- to moderate-income people and families to get a break on their taxes. For those that qualify, the EITC can reduce taxes owed and potentially increase refunds.”
