September 27 Forum – How Can Public Schools Better Support Talented Students of Color?

Posted on

Research has shown that gifted African American and Hispanic students are chronically underrepresented in accelerated programs in public schools, making them less likely to attend and complete college than their peers. The Center for American Press will host a discussion on how public schools can ensure adequate support for talented students of color. Speakers include Congressman Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ); Hannah Doruelo, fellow at the Institute for Recruitment of Teachers; David Johns, executive director of the White House Initiative on Education Excellence for African Americans; Michael Petrilli, president of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute; and Craig Robinson, national director of KIPP Through College. The event will be held at CAP in Washington, D.C., from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. EDT. Click here to register.
