Policy Solutions to Close the Wealth Gap

A new report from the Corporation for Enterprise Development (CFED) outlines a federal policy blueprint to address the wealth gap between low and high earners as well as between white and non-white households. A Federal Policy Blueprint to Close the Ever-Growing Wealth Gap calls on the next President and Congress to adopt these approaches.  It notes that the wealthiest top 0.1 percent of Americans now own about as much wealth as the bottom 99 percent combined, and that the average black and Latino households won’t match the level of wealth in the average white household for centuries under current policy. The report calls for reforms to college savings accounts, homeownership, retirement accounts, consumer protection, and other policies to help low-income people build saving and close the wealth gap.
