Unfair Schedules Harm Low-Income Workers

Many young and low-income workers are held back by unpredictable and unstable work schedules, according to a new report from the Center for American Progress. Schedules That Work for Working Families finds that nearly half of young workers have no control over their work hours, and many receive schedules with less than a week’s notice, making it difficult to take on a second job, continue their education, or even handle basic needs like child care and medical appointments. The report recommends that policymakers at the local and federal levels reform scheduling practices, requiring more advance notice and giving employees more power.
