November 15 Forum – Has the First Job Disappeared? Connecting Young Workers to Employers and Career-Building Work Experiences

The labor market participation rate among teens and young adults has fallen at alarming rates since 2000, particularly for young people of color. The Aspen Institute will host a discussion about the factors behind this trend and strategies to connect young people to employment. Speakers include Lashon Amado, national coordinator for Opportunity Youth United; Amy Barad, director of strategic initiatives at Tulane University’s Cowen Institute; Kisha Bird, director of youth policy at the Center for Law and Social Policy; Paul Harrington, director of the Center for Labor Markets and Policy; and Tammy Simmons, vice president of marketing & culture at Machine Specialties Inc.
