One in six American children grow up in poverty, according to the 30th edition of the KIDS COUNT Data Book, the Annie E. Casey Foundation's annual assessment of child well-being. Virtually no progress on child poverty has been made since 1990, when the first Data Book was published, and racial inequities persist. However, 11 of 16 index measures – tracking education, health, family and community and economic well-being – have improved over that time period. The interactive Data Book includes state-by-state rankings and policy recommendations.
