Low- and middle-income Americans are getting married less frequently, and new research from AEI and the Institute for Family Studies suggests that federal welfare programs may contribute to that trend by penalizing marriage. AEI will host a discussion on that research and on the future of marriage in the U.S. Speakers include Kathryn Edin, author of $2 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America; Ron Haskins, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution; Catherine Rampell, columnist at the Washington Post; and Reihan Salam, executive editor of the National Review. The event will be held at AEI in Washington, D.C., from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. EDT. Click here to register.
