The Gap: The Affordable Housing Gap Analysis 2016

America’s 10.4 million low-income renters – those in the lower third of income in their communities – face a shortage of more than 7 million affordable rental units, according to a new report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition. The Gap: The Affordable Housing Gap Analysis 2016 finds that the vast majority of low-income renters spend more than half their income on housing, putting them at high risk of eviction and homelessness. The report maps the availability of affordable rental units in all 50 states, finding that Nevada, Florida, Oregon, and Georgia are among the states with the least affordable housing.
