Syracuse.com, August 26, 2016: Central New York Has Most Segregated School District Border in State, Report Finds
August 26, 2016
“Children who attend Syracuse schools are almost six times as likely to live in poverty as the students across the district border who attend school in the Westhill Central School District. The poverty gap between children attending school in Syracuse and Westhill schools -- 38 percent -- is the widest in New York, and the 15th widest gap in the country, according to the report. Most of Syracuse's borders are considered to be among the most segregated in the state, according to the report by EdBuild, a national advocacy group focusing on education funding. EdBuild analyzed poverty rates at more than 33,500 school district borders in the country using Census Bureau data.”
