"The William Penn Foundation and Drexel University today announced a new initiative in which they are working together with community child care centers and other local agencies to help tackle some issues facing early childhood education in West Philadelphia. ...In January 2014, West Philadelphia was identified as one of five federally-designated Promise Zones, a new initiative that is helping revitalize high-poverty communities across the country through a hybrid of efforts including creating jobs, increasing economic activity and improving educational activity."

"Last year, the DuPage Community Foundation awarded $75,000 to the Wheaton-Warrenville Early Childhood Collaborative, a partnership made up of the school district, family services, and a number of other local agencies. Since then, the program has organized outreach events for more than 200 families and education workshops have been held for 108 early childhood providers in the Wheaton Warrenville area, officials said. [��_] Estimates show that about 6,400 children under age 6 in DuPage County live in poverty and the rate of child poverty has more than doubled in the past decade, according to the Governor's Office of Early Childhood Development."

Blank Family Foundation, CF Foundation, Chick-fil-A Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Georgia Power Foundation/Southern Company Charitable Foundation, The Kendeda Fund, The Marcus Foundation, Robertson Foundation, O. Wayne Rollins Foundation and Robert W. Woodruff Foundation."

"Recent research shows that brain development is buoyed by continuous interaction with parents and caregivers from birth, and that even before age 2, the children of the wealthy know more words than do those of the poor. [...] Too Small to Fail, a joint effort of the nonprofit Next Generation and the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, chose Latino children as its initial focus because more of them live in poverty than do children of any other racial or ethnic group. [...] Hillary Rodham Clinton is the co-founder of Too Small to Fail, which has raised $10 million so far."

"The D.C. initiative is called the Family Engagement Partnership (FEP), supported by the Flamboyan Foundation, which tries to improve educational outcomes in the District and Puerto Rico. The program operates in 10 elementary schools - as well as two education campuses; two middle schools, one secondary school, and nine charter schools. They had to compete for a chance to join the program. The District plans to add 15 more schools."

"Launched in the District in 2010, Reading Partners received a $25,000 grant in June from The Washington Post Charities, a McCormick Foundation Fund dedicated to increasing the educational opportunities available to disadvantaged children and teens in the Washington region."
