A Poverty Ally Who’ll Be Greening the White House

Posted on

It۪s official. OOTS just wrote about Van Jones and his well-received remarks at the recent Middle Class Task force meeting in Philly, and now we learn he is joining the White House Council of Environmental Quality (CEQ) as a Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation. A coincidence? Perhaps. Ok, probably.

But regardless, it’s nice to see the environmental community embracing the “poverty and opportunity” message. As CEQ chair, Nancy Sutley noted in the press release, “Jones will [also] help to shape and advance the Administration۪s energy and climate initiatives with a specific interest in improvements and opportunities for vulnerable communities.” Wasting no time, Jones starts on Monday.

Check out this terrific video of Jones testifying before the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming on creating jobs and opportunity:

Of course, OOTS dishes on much more than who might be on the dream team.
