Racial Gap in Homeownership Leaves Black Families Behind

Nationally, African Americans are significantly less likely than whites to own a home, but the racial homeownership gap varies widely from place to place, according to a new brief from the Urban Institute. The gap ranges from as little as 15 percentage points in Kileen, Tex., to a full 50 percentage points in Minneapolis.
