Low-Income Residents Yet to Benefit From Metro-Area Booms
A new report from the Brookings Institution finds that low-income residents in large U.S. metropolitan areas face barriers to economic inclusion. Committing To Inclusive Growth: Lessons For Metro Areas argues that metropolitan growth in mid-sized cities is also accompanied by unaffordable housing, underperforming schools and multi-generational poverty — preventing low-income residents from reaping the benefits of cities’ growth. The researchers share findings from experimental initiatives in three cities (Nashville, Indianapolis, and San Diego) that focus on ways to more evenly share economic development among all residents.
