Why the U.S. Overtaxes Labor
“Relying so heavily on income taxes does allow the U.S. to have a much more progressive tax system than nations that depend more on value-added taxes and other consumption taxes to make ends meet. But most other wealthy nations make up for the lack of progressivity on the taxing side by spending the money a lot more progressively (in the sense of giving more to the poor and less to the rich) than the U.S. does.”
