“1. Shine a light on the challenges rural schools face. One in five children in the United States attend school in a rural community. Of these, one in four live in poverty, including 10 percent with family incomes less than half the poverty level. These students are more likely to experience poor health, lack access to educational resources in their homes and are already behind their peers when they start kindergarten.”
