Subsidized Jobs Programs Can Pay For Themselves

The Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality today released a report finding that subsidized employment programs can be cost-effective ways to reduce unemployment and combat long-term poverty. Lessons Learned From 40 Years of Subsidized Employment Programs examines more than 40 jobs programs, finding that many programs were able to increase workers’ lifetime earnings and education as well as pay for themselves. The authors argue that such programs could find support from both Republicans and Democrats.
