“But in January, he took a free four-month carpentry class at Menlo Park’s JobTrain, which helps low-income people learn skills that lead directly to employment. The hands-on training included building an 8-by-10-foot shed with wood framing inside and out, plus the drywall, roofing, insulation and some concrete work.”
