Report shows Milwaukee lags among major metro areas in addressing issue of ‘plumbing poverty’

“Plumbing poverty was defined as a household that does not have running water, an indoor bathtub or shower, and/or is lacking a toilet. Katie Meehan, a professor of environment and society at Kings College London, was the main researcher for the report, which used census data to build the results.
[…] Research also showed that the impact of plumbing poverty has disproportionately impacted residents who are Black and/or have lower incomes.
‘I think part of it is legacies of exclusion, discrimination and racism,’ Meehan said. ‘In some ways, the plumbing poverty mirrors the broader trends of widening gaps of poverty.'”
