Proposed change to Des Moines County’s relief program may make applying for assistance easier

“’There are a number of counties that do this,’ said Supervisor Tom Broeker. ‘This would make it a one-stop-shop.’

General Assistance provides financial support for Des Moines County residents in need. The program, which is funded by local tax dollars, is used as a means of last resort to help residents who don’t have anywhere else to turn. The program has strict criteria, including that any recipients must sit at 50% of the poverty level.”
