People of Color Remain Especially Vulnerable to Economic Shocks

The 2019 Prosperity Now Scorecard shows that millions of American families – particularly families of color – are just one emergency or financial setback from poverty or bankruptcy, despite growth in the broader economy. The Scorecard includes state-by-state data on more than 100 indicators of financial health, jobs, housing, health care, and education. Among other findings, the report shows that nearly two thirds of Black and Latino households lack the savings to weather a financial shock, compared to about 30 percent of White households.
