Owners of empty storefronts in Syracuse’s high-poverty neighborhoods may get boost under federally funded program
“Some of Syracuse’s empty storefronts may soon get a facelift thanks to a new city grant program.
The Syracuse Common Council is set to approve $2 million in federal pandemic stimulus funding to offer grants for investment in commercial and mixed-use properties in high-poverty areas of the city.
Through the Distressed Commercial Corridor Improvement Fund, property owners would be able to apply for grants of up to $100,000 to revitalize and improve commercial properties, especially those with empty or under-utilized storefronts, according to information released by Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh’s office.”c
