Opportunity for All? Technology and Learning in Lower-Income Families

Low- and moderate-income families are increasingly using smartphones and tablets for education and communication, but still tend to lack a stable home Internet connection, according to a new report from the Joan Ganz Cooney Center. Opportunity for All? Technology and Learning in Lower-Income Families finds that while 94 percent of low-income families surveyed have Internet access, more than half say it is too slow and nearly one in 10 still use dial-up connections. The report also finds that low-income families are more likely to connect to the Internet on mobile devices, making it less likely that children will use the Internet for educational purposes.
