“The latest thing we’re urged to worry about is that some 36% of American children are in low income or poor families. This does sound a little shocking doesn’t it, but there’s a problem with it. For, given the way that we’re defining low income, we would actually expect the number to be more like 50% in such families. That is, there are too few poor children in the US, not too many. No,. no, I don’t really mean that but let’s go through the figures to see what do I mean.”
