(Op-Ed) Early Learning Key to Success of Children and Quality of Life for All

Posted on

“Although many of our political leaders talk about investing in our children, as a nation, we don’t actually invest enough in kids. According to the advocacy organization First Focus, the share of federal spending dedicated to children is just 8 percent of the federal budget, despite the fact that children are 25 percent of the population.

One result of this is that two out of five American kids are not enrolled in preschool or other high-quality early learning programs. Equally stunning is the number of children affected. According to the National Center for Children in Poverty, 10.6 million children under the age of 6 in the United States live in low-income families. That’s 45 percent of all kids under 6.”
