NYS receives $28M GEAR UP Grant to help low-income students prepare for college
“The State of New York received a $28 million Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Education. According to Governor Kathy Hochul, the seven-year grant will help more than 6,200 low-income students prepare for and succeed in college. Beginning in 7th grade, students will have access to support services such as tutoring and homework assistance, academic counseling, mentoring, college and career counseling, financial literacy, college tours and summer academies. Parents and guardians will also receive services to help their children, and teachers, counselors and administrators will receive professional development training.”
