Posted on

“Indianapolis has for a long time been one of the cities nationwide that evicts its residents at the highest rates. In 2016, Indianapolis had the 14th highest eviction rate among all U.S. cities.

Here, eviction is often treated as an option of first resort, rather than of last resort, said Brandon Beeler, Housing Law Center Director at Indiana Legal Services, a non-profit that provides free legal assistance to low-income individuals. The frequency of eviction filings has only increased during the pandemic, with 751 cases filed in Indianapolis during the week of Aug. 29-Sept. 5, according to the Eviction Lab.”
