McHenry County Foundation Awards $250,000 to Illinois Area Nonprofits
“The McHenry County Community Foundation last week awarded more than $250,000 in grants to area nonprofits and schools that promote the arts, education, economic development and the environment. Alexander Leigh received the largest grant, with the Boy Scouts of America receiving the same amount to support STEM and Career Exploring staff. Other large grants went to Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County, which received $20,000 for its on-site mentoring program, and Home of the Sparrow, which received two $10,000 grants for its programs. First-time Community Foundation grant recipient the Society of St. Vincent DePaul will have $5,000 to put toward its Hope Takes Action project. The new program aims to bring people out of poverty through a 16-week class and mentorship. McHenry will be the first area location.”
