Mayor David and the YWCA Announce Brand New Affordable Housing and Childcare Project in Downtown Binghamton

“Mayor Rich David joined YWCA Executive Director Carole Coppens and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo to announce details of the multi-million dollar affordable housing and child care project in downtown Binghamton.
This project will cost around 24 million dollars and expand on the YWCA’s Young Wonders Early Childhood program to nearly triple its current capacity. In addition, the YWCA will gut out and remodel the former Broome County Urban League building on 45 Carroll St. into a state-of-the-art childcare center.
The project will also include the construction of a brand new four-story affordable housing complex on Lisle Avenue. This new building will consist of 60 units for low-income families and a portion reserved for low-income seniors. The housing development will span five parcels: 20, 22, 24, and 34 Lisle Avenue, and the rear parking lot of 45 Carroll Street, which is the site of the new YWCA facility. The City of Binghamton will also sell the vacant lots on Lisle Avenue to the YWCA for $1.”
