May 31 – June 3, 2012: United Technologies/National Journal Congressional Connection Poll—Nationwide poll on Americans۪ opinions on food stamps.

As you may know, Congress is considering a multi-billion dollar farm bill. I’m going to read you some different areas related to agriculture where the federal government spends money. For each, tell me if you would like to see federal spending increased,decreased, or kept about the same. What about federal spending for…food stamps?Should it be increased, decreased, or kept about the same?

Since President (Barack) Obama took office in 2009 the number of Americans on food stamps has grown from 32million to 46 million. Which of the following do you think is the most important reason for this increase–more people getting food stamps because of loose eligibility requirements or fraud, or more people needing food stamps because of the recession and slow recovery, or both equally?
