May 1 Forum – Should the U.S. Enact a Universal Child Allowance?

Posted on

The current tax system provides financial support to some families with children through the Child Tax Credit, but several policymakers support giving cash assistance to all families with children, modeled on similar allowances in other countries. The Brookings Institution will host a discussion on the current safety net for parents as well as new research on a universal child allowance. Speakers include Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT); Jared Bernstein, senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities; Aparna Mathur, fellow at AEI; Olivia Golden, executive director of the Center for Law and Social Policy; and Ramesh Ponnuru, senior editor at National Review. The event will be held at Brookings in Washington, D.C., from 1-5:30 p.m. EDT. Click here to register.
