March 3 Forum – Complex Families and Complex Taxes: How Has Growing Complexity in Families Made the Tax Filing Process More Complicated?
The federal income tax system aims to support low- and moderate-income families with children by assuming a “traditional” family structure – two young people marrying, having children, and staying married. But the American family is increasingly more complex. The Urban Institute will host a discussion of the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit and how they can adapt to complex family structures. Speakers include Francesca Jean Baptiste, senior program manager of the Maryland CASH Campaign, and Nina Olson, taxpayer advocate at the Internal Revenue Service. The event will be held at the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C., from 12 – 1:30 p.m. EST. Click here to register.
